Valued at $10,000, these Chromebooks will play a pivotal role in supporting the Urban League’s National Achiever Society (NAS) students as they gear up for the highly anticipated Florida Brain Bowl Competition in March.

Fort Lauderdale, FL - June 7, 2023.  Urban League of Broward County, a nonprofit organization, has been awarded a $130,000 grant to train under-employed and unemployed individuals from targeted zip codes to obtain certifications in low-barrier to entry healthcare jobs. The grant was made possible by the generous support of The HCA Healthcare Foundation.

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) announced today it will open a Business Recovery Center (BRC) in Broward County at 11 a.m. Monday, May 8, at the Urban League of Broward County in Fort Lauderdale. At the BRC, SBA’s Customer Service Representatives will assist Floridians applying for SBA disaster loans for losses due to severe storms, tornadoes and flooding that occurred on April 12-14.

PNC Foundation Grants $50,000 to Urban League of Broward County to Grow Black-Owned Businesses The PNC Foundation has awarded the Urban League of Broward County a $50,000 grant to support the economic empowerment and social mobility of dozens of small, Black-owned businesses in South Florida. The PNC Foundation grant will be used for the uBiz Co-Lab program – a cohort learning model that offers business owners access to six months of personalized business coaching by experts in marketing, IT, accounting, operations, and legal advice.

Today, the Urban League of Broward County (ULBC) and Hispanic Unity of Florida (HUF) took bold steps to analyze social and economic inequities that exist between racial/ethnic groups through the release of State of Black Broward and State of Hispanic and Immigrant Broward. Funded by The Jim Moran Foundation and produced in partnership with the Florida International University (FIU) Jorge M. Perez Metropolitan Center, the reports examine alarming opportunity gaps in the areas of education, income, health, criminal justice, housing and voter engagement.

Urban League’s Central County Community Development Corporation secures $250,000 investment from Bank Leumi USA FORT LAUDERDALE, Fl.--(November 05, 2021) -- The Central County Community Development Corporation (CCCDC), a subsidiary of the Urban League of Broward County, announced a $250,000 investment from Bank Leumi USA to fund its Small Business Loan Fund. The fund was established in 2015 to improve access to capital for low-income entrepreneurs and small business owners in low-wealth communities across Florida.

Urban League of Broward County is pleased to announce that its subsidiary, Central County Community Development Corporation, has been certified as a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) by the US Department of Treasury. This designation is federal recognition of CCCDC’s mission and successful history of advancing community and economic development.

The Urban League of Broward County and Urban League of Greater Miami are pleased to announce a $100,000 donation from AT&T. The contribution will be used to help build a more resilient workforce by providing reskilling pathways to employment for at-risk and displaced workers. The donation is part of the AT&T Believe Miami℠ grassroots initiative to create positive changes in underserved communities.

The organization congratulates all the candidates who won at the local, state and national races. The agency also congratulates the organizers of the successful local and state ballot measures, especially the passage of Amendment 4, which restores the voting rights of ex-felons.

Urban League of Broward County Issues Statement about Charlottesville, Virginia Hate Rally

Urban League of Broward County students will participate in a “Seeds of Hope” service-learning project in observance of the national Martin Luther King Day of Service on Monday, January 18, 2016. Students will assemble seed packets with positive messages of hope for distribution in the annual MLK parade along the Historic Sistrunk Corridor in Fort Lauderdale.

FORT LAUDERDALE – May 19, 2015 – On the national May 21 Red Nose Day, the Urban League of Broward County will host our summer camp orientation – exactly the kind of programming that the Red Nose Day is set to support. 

More than 100 youth and adults are expected to attend an internship and career fair on April 11 at the Urban League of Broward County. Many of the attendees are recent high school and college graduates and/or adults who have struggled to find work.
