Urban League of Broward County Welcomes Alfonso Costa Jr. to Board of Directors

Fort Lauderdale, FL — The Urban League of Broward County (ULBC) is proud to announce the appointment of Alfonso Costa Jr. to its Board of Directors. Costa Jr. brings extensive experience in real estate development, public-private partnerships, and housing policy, strengthening ULBC’s mission to promote economic empowerment and equitable opportunities in Broward County. 

As Chief Operating Officer of the Falcone Group, Costa Jr. oversees the development of multifamily rental apartment developments, single-family home communities, and for-sale condominium projects, leading public-private partnership (P3) opportunities, and executing operational and strategic initiatives for the company. His current pipeline of mixed-use development projects includes more than 2,000 residential units and 200,000 square feet of retail and self-storage, with a total value exceeding $1 billion. These projects include Miami World Center's “Block C-East” and Oakland Park’s “Horizon” public-private partnership. Previously, he served as Deputy Chief of Staff and Opportunity Zones lead for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), where he oversaw policy for the $70 billion annually-budgeted Cabinet agency and guided national housing and community development initiatives. 

A recognized expert on Opportunity Zones, Costa Jr. has been named among Opportunity Zone Magazine’s “Top 25 OZ Influencers” for 2020 and 2021. Beyond his professional accomplishments, he is a committed social advocate, serving on numerous philanthropic, academic, and industry boards, including ULI Florida’s Affordable & Workforce Housing Council and the Nova Southeastern University Master’s in Real Estate Development Program.

Costa Jr. holds a law degree from Harvard University, a master’s degree from the University of Oxford, and a bachelor’s degree from Yale University, where he also excelled as a two-sport Division-I athlete.
