ULBC FUTURE STEM INNOVATORS SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

The Urban League, with support from NextEra Energy/FPL, proudly offers a STEM scholarship to empower the next generation of innovators. We hope this scholarship will open a world of possibilities for bright, curious students and reflects our commitment to nurturing minds eager to explore the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).

Eligibility: Students must meet all the following criteria to be eligible to receive this scholarship.

  1. Have been a part of any Urban League Program for at least one year.
  2. Committed (or currently enrolled) to pursue a degree/certificate in the STEM career field.
  3. Have a minimum GPA of 2.0
  4. Commit to staying connected to the Urban League STEM Ready Program.
     

Award Information: Scholarship awards will range in amount and may be used for tuition, books, fees, or other approved educational expenses. The number awarded and amount of each award are subject to available funding.

Use of Scholarship Funds: Scholarship funds will be disbursed directly to the educational institution and must be used for educational expenses related to enrollment in a STEM program.

 

Application Process: To apply, please send an email to complete the following

  1. Written application: Complete the application enclosed.
    • You may handwrite or type in your response.

 

  1. Video Entry: Create a video introducing yourself and answering the following:
  • Who are you?
  • What are your goals?
  • How will this scholarship help you achieve it?

 

Time Limit: Keep your video under two minutes.

Format: Upload your video as a YouTube (unlisted), Google Drive, or Dropbox link.

 Include the link to your video on the application.

 

Your video is an opportunity to let your personality shine! Be yourself and share your story.

 

  1. Essay: Select one of the following essay questions and provide a well-structured, thoughtful response.
  • STEM & Society – Why is STEM important in today’s world? What inspired you to pursue a career in STEM?
  • Education & Motivation – What drives you to go to college? Why do you believe education is important?
  • Leadership & Challenges – Share an experience where you demonstrated leadership and overcame challenges in school, social settings, or with your family.
  • Future Vision – What do you hope for the future of students like you who aspire to enter the STEM field?

 

Submission Format: Type your response in Google Docs or Word Document.

Tip: Be authentic, tell your story, and share how this scholarship can impact your journey.

Word Limit: Maximum 1,000 words

 

Selection Process: Scholarship recipients will be selected by a review committee based on academic achievement, commitment to STEM, quality of the essay and video submission, leadership potential, and alignment with the mission of the Urban League of Broward County. All decisions are final.

Deadline: This form and all requested documents must be received by Friday, March 31, 2026, by 11:59 PM EST. Applications must be submitted by email to stemready@ulbcfl.org.

Applicants will be notified of their status by email no later than Monday, April 20, 2026. Winners will be invited to a recognition ceremony in May to receive their award. Scholarship recipients will be required to submit proof of enrollment for scholarship to be awarded to the institution of their choice.
