Urban League Announces Restructuring and Key Leadership Changes
November 6, 2019 – Fort Lauderdale, FL. The Urban League of Broward County (ULBC) President and CEO Dr. Germaine Smith-Baugh announced several changes to the senior leadership team as it positions itself for future growth.
The Urban League reorganized its senior leadership to support the organizational structure focused on five business pillars: innovation, program impact, revenue generation, marketing and community development. “While our successful history allows us to build on our past achievements, our future depends on transformative solutions that advance our mission,” said Dr. Baugh. “Today’s announcement signifies my long-term commitment to the Urban League and our ability to create lasting change for our community.”
Dr. Baugh announced the following changes effective immediately and will include a transition period through January 2020.
Courtnee Biscardi has been appointed to the newly created role of Executive Vice President. In this role, Biscardi will support the CEO and ULBC’s Board of Directors in operational strategy, government relations, small business development and lending, as well as new and existing social ventures through the Urban League’s subsidiaries.
Mark A. Reyes has been appointed to the role of Vice President of Program Impact and will oversee the Urban League’s portfolio of programs and services in the areas of education, jobs, justice, housing and health. Reyes will continue to oversee advocacy and civic engagement.
Jean-Claude Toussaint has been elevated to the role of Senior Vice President of Finance & Administration and will continue to oversee the organization’s accounting operations, information technology and asset management solutions for the Urban League and its subsidiaries.
Alica Brown has been elevated to the role of Senior Vice President of Philanthropy & Communications and will oversee corporate philanthropy, volunteer and auxiliary management, and communications for the Urban League and its subsidiaries.
The organizational restructure was inspired by thought leadership, technical education and development opportunities made possible by the Citi Foundation. As recipients of the Foundation’s Community Progress Makers Award in 2018, the strategy aligns with both organization’s co-commitment to building stronger, more resilient communities through leadership development, economic growth and sustainability.
“As we approach our 45th year in service, our Board of Directors agreed that now is the right time to build the foundation for accelerated and sustainable growth,” said ULBC Board Chair Sidney Calloway. “We are confident in Dr. Baugh’s ability to drive the Urban League’s long-term mission forward and build on its momentum for the next 45 years and beyond.”
