9TH ANNUAL SOUTH FLORIDA BLACK ECONOMIC FORUM: LUNCH BREAK CHAT WITH WALTER BOND

In celebration of the National Black Business Month, The Mosaic Group (www.mosaicgroup.co), in partnership with the Urban League of Broward County (www.ulbroward.org), will host the 9TH
Annual South Florida Black Economic Forum (SFBEF) on Friday, August 16, 2019 at the Urban League of Broward County
located at 560 NW 27TH Avenue, Fort Lauderdale.

The South Florida Black Economic Forum (SFBEF) is an annual initiative that connects, engages, and informs black business owners and professionals about opportunities, resources, and programs that will increase the number and scale of African/Caribbean-American owned businesses in South Florida. The SFBEF’s goal is to empower community members to take the necessary steps to grow and develop their enterprise, create wealth for their families, support black businesses throughout the region, and foster growth and sustainability while reducing unemployment and bridging the wealth gap in South Florida.

The Urban League of Broward County launched its Entrepreneurship Center and Loan Fund to provide minority-owned small businesses with technical assistance and access to capital. “Small businesses continue to be essential drivers of economic growth,” said Dr. Germaine Smith-Baugh, president and CEO for the Urban League. “We are proud to be able to provide a vehicle to develop and sustain them within our community.”

This year’s forum will feature a lunch break chat with special guest Walter Bond, an NBA Legend and internationally recognized preeminent expert on sales, motivation, leadership and peak performance. He spent eight years playing as a shooting guard for NBA teams such as the Dallas Mavericks, Utah Jazz and Detroit Pistons. Bond recently released his highly anticipated book Swim, a fascinating story about the power of leadership, mentoring, and next-level success. A book signing will follow the lunch break chat. “It is important to celebrate the creation and growth of black-owned businesses in South Florida as they are significant contributors to our local economy. Each year, we feature thought leaders from around the state and country who share their knowledge, experiences, and expertise which empowers our guests to become better versions of themselves and to make decisions that will improve their finances, businesses, and community at large, and this year will deliver the same impact, says Ann Marie Sorrell, president and CEO of The Mosaic Group. “Bridging the wealth gap and creating sustainable communities begins with individuals making smart financial decisions and investments and shared with others through empowerment events as this.”

Additionally, Broward County Vice Mayor Dale Holness will present the Broward Black Action Plan, which examines the
disparities that exist in the black community and focus on implementing solutions that will change those disparities to create a more prosperous community for all. Bryan Cunningham, Division Manager of the Entrepreneurship Center at the Urban League of Broward County will also present information on small business assistance and access to capital.

“It is critical to support black-owned businesses as business ownership is one of the greatest creators of wealth that can be transferred to future generations. Black business ownership also creates employment opportunities. With Black unemployment usually twice as high as other communities, it is important that we work to create our own employment
opportunities”, says Vice Mayor Dale Holness.
