FORT LAUDERDALE (January 31, 2012) -- The Urban League of Broward County (ULBC) received a $100,000 gift from the American Express Charitable Fund at its Annual Business Meeting on Friday, January 27, 2012. The meeting was held at the 110 Tower in Fort Lauderdale and attended by ULBC supporters, funders, partners and elected officials including Mayor Jack Seiler of Fort Lauderdale and the City of Oakland Park’s Commissioner John Adornato, III.
The meeting highlighted the Urban League’s success and accomplishments between July 2010 and June 2011 and also welcomed five new members to the Board of Directors including representatives from Burger King, Sunshine State Health, Broward College, PNC Bank and the School Board of Broward County.
Following her address, ULBC’s Board Chair Doria Camaraza, Senior Vice President & General Manager of American Express presented the $100,000 donation in support of the League’s efforts to expand programs and services through the construction of the new Community Empowerment Center opening in Spring 2012. “This past year I’ve had the privilege of serving as board chair and I’ve had the opportunity to see firsthand how we change lives one neighborhood at a time,” said Camaraza. “I continue to be inspired by the results of our programs and I believe we will increase the power in this community when the doors to the Community Empowerment Center open in just a few months.”
