Dillard High School partners with Urban League of Broward County and
Boys and Girls Club to Host Commemorative Air Force Traveling Exhibit
FORT LAUDERDALE (November 15, 2013) – The Commemorative Air Force (CAF) Red Tail Squadron will host a free RISE ABOVE Traveling Exhibit sponsored by JM Family Enterprises and Stonegate Bank at Dillard High School in Fort Lauderdale. Local students and youth enrolled in afterschool programs at the Boys & Girls Club of Broward County and Urban League of Broward County will visit the exhibit from November 18th – 21st. The educational exhibit features a 35-seat movie theater housed in a semi-rig and provides a unique opportunity for students to learn about the inspiring story of the Tuskegee Airmen.
The exhibit presents a screening of a short original movie, “RISE ABOVE,” which focuses on the obstacles faced by America’s first black military pilots and their support personnel, known today as the Tuskegee Airmen, as they worked toward their goal of becoming U.S. Army Air Corps pilots in the early 1940s. “The exhibit is truly a one-of-a-kind adventure similar to something you would experience at Disneyland,” said Brad Lang, CAF Red Tail Squadron Leader. “The overall message is about rising above to reach your potential no matter your circumstances and the message resonates with all ages because of the unique and interactive way it is told. This is an experience you won’t want to miss.”
Although the exhibit will open its doors on Monday, a special VIP reception will be held on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm in the Gallery at Dillard High School located at 2501 NW 11th Street in Fort Lauderdale. The reception will feature Dillard High Schools’ award winning National Jazz Band as well as the Tuskegee Airman Lt. Col. Leo Gray.
Every student who visits the RISE ABOVE Traveling Exhibit as part of a school or educational outreach program is given an inspirational dog tag with the six guiding principles of the CAF Red Tail Squadron’s Rise Above educational program. These principles reflect how the Tuskegee Airmen rose above all of the obstacles they faced in order to fly and fight for America. The dog tags read: Aim High – Believe in Yourself – Use Your Brain – Never Quit – Be Ready to Go – Expect To Win.
“We are excited to partner with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County, the City of Fort Lauderdale Police Department, Enterprise Rent-A-Car along with sponsors JM Family Enterprises, Inc. and Stonegate Bank to bring this wonderful educational experience to Broward County and to our students,” said Urban League of Broward County President and CEO Dr. Germaine Smith-Baugh.
