Coventry Health Care of Florida Acquires Naming Rights to Wellness & Fitness Room of new Community Empowerment Center

FORT LAUDERDALE (October 17, 2011) — The Urban League of Broward County, a non-profit human services organization, is the recipient of a $75,000 contribution from Coventry Health Care of Florida.  The donation gives Coventry Health Care of Florida naming rights to the Wellness & Fitness Center—an onsite fitness room that will be located in the Community Empowerment Center (CEC), opening in Spring 2012.

The Urban League’s President and CEO, Dr. Germaine Smith-Baugh, commented on the gift, “It is imperative for the Urban League to promote initiatives aimed at reducing or preventing illnesses that disproportionately affect residents in low-income communities. The collaboration with Coventry Health Care of Florida supports our goal of improving the quality and accessibility of wellness programs while empowering our clients and staff to take charge of their health.”

Coventry Health Care of Florida offers a full range of health benefit plans, serving employer groups, individuals and beneficiaries of Medicare, Medicaid, Healthy Kids and Florida’s Nursing Home Diversion program. The company has a long standing tradition of philanthropic support, with a specific focus on helping Floridians lead healthier lives.

“The Urban League’s commitment to empower individuals and provide programs and services to advance the health of the surrounding community is a natural complement to Coventry’s outreach initiatives,” said Christopher Ciano, CEO of Coventry Health Care of Florida. “We are proud of the partnership and look forward to helping the organization positively impact the lives of Broward County’s residents.”

Additional naming opportunities are available within the new CEC for private donors and corporations. The CEC, located along Sistrunk Blvd., just south of the African-American Research Library in Fort Lauderdale, will be nearly three times larger than the Urban League’s current headquarters and will feature private family counseling rooms as well as a multi-purpose room that can be used by any non-profit or community group. The Coventry Health Care of Florida Wellness and Fitness center will support the agency’s workplace wellness initiative.  The CEC will also house high-tech classrooms for certified occupational training, offer conference and meeting room space, and provide a community resource center.
