Education Empowerment
The Urban League is committed to working to help provide the best education for our children, enagaging parents as educational consumer and fostering a joy of learning. The Urban League is dedicated to raising the bar by energizing students and parents with creative and innovative programs. This campaign for African American Achievement was developed as a response to a growing sense of crisis in the academic and social development of African-American youth. The performance gap between white students and African-American youth, and affluent and disadvantaged communities is still very evident. Spreading the gospel that Achievement Matters, is imperative to close this gap.

The Campaign for African American Achievement is high impact programming that features the following components:
National Achievers Society
The National Achievers Society, formerly known as the McKnight Achievers Society and the Thurgood Marshall Achievers Society, is the African American community's national honor society. Induction into the National Achievers Society requires students meet the established academic and social standards. Participation in Society activities by both students and parents is compulsory. Inductions are held annually in May and December.

Supplemental Education Services (SES)
Free tutoring and remedial help is available to students attending Title I schools that have not made progressive for three consecutive years. Eligible students can receive before or after school academic sessions targeting the following subjects: reading, language arts and math.
Activities for Parents and Youth
Instilling the importance of academic and personal excellence, the Campaign for African American Achievement provides free SAT Preparation Workshops, college and career awareness activities, after school tutorials, community service projects, local and statewide academic competitions, leadership development activities, educational and cultural field trips, annual celebratory events which recognize students for their achievements, and parent training/informational meetings.
Parent Leadership Training Institute
The institute trains a cadre of parents of school-aged children from low performing schools to become "parent leaders". These parent leaders receive training in negotiation skills, recruiting and engaging other parents, recognizing different learning and behavior.
Leadership Summits
The Campaign and local Campaign Partners analyze and communicate what is known about achievement and youth and devise strategies for launching and implementing the activities of the Campaign at an annual Education Summit.
Advocacy
The Campaign collects data which identifies achievement gaps, and familiarize our community with successful schools and their practices to ensure that all students have access to quality education. The data collected helps to inform the community of possible action steps. Advocacy includes education, one-on-one meetings, high stakes negotiation and draws upon the resources and opportunities that local businesses and other community stakeholders can provide.
